Riders, check your emails.

I've sent you a document from the WWP with more detailed planning. Read it over and let me know if you have questions. Or let me know if you didn't get it.

What's our plan to get to Beeville, it's 85 miles per my estimation from the mission to Beeville. Then to NAS Corpus Christi its 73 miles.

I suggest we drop off the official ride at Mission Espada and roll over to 181 to make a hard run for Beeville.

They ride from Beeville to Portland, which is <50 miles. We can do that, however: Looking at the schedule, the official ride runs from Beeville to Portland, north of Corpus Christi. I have conflicting information, but the preponderance of evidence suggests that no one may ride a bike across the Harbor Bridge, into Corpus. I don't yet know if the SR folks have enough available truck space to haul us from Portland to the other side, or if we need to reroute and skip the Portland festivities and roll straight to CC from Beeville.

I'll try to get more information on this.

Update: Woody says Soldier Ride can make room to truck us across the bridge.

Check it now, Jack.

The Harbor Bridge is pretty sizable and, depending on time of day, traffic shouldn't be too bad. The State of Texas recognizes bicycles as vehicles and therfore I can't see how they could block us from riding the bridge. I ride the bridges here in the Houston area regularly and haven't had a problem (other than timing it right on the Oyster Bayou and Chocolate Bayous bridges).

...by sizable I mean multiple lanes of traffic in each direction.

Google Earth shows an 8 foot (lane-width) shoulder across the entire length of the bridge.

Other Googling shows mixed results, but mostly says "No riding"
I know it's sometimes done, but I suspect that's under other circumstances than in Friday evening traffic.
